Windsor Castle is believed to be the biggest populated castles around & the eldest in nonstop inhabitation (over nine hundred years). It’s one of the Queen’s three royal homes, and is regularly thought to be her outright preferred home. The Royal flag soars above the Round Tower of Windsor Castle whilst Queen Elizabeth the 2nd is in palace - at alternative periods, the Union Jack banner flies in its position.

Samuel Pepys stated the Castle to be “the most loving castle on the planet.” That was believed in sixteen-sixty-six & the same is true today.

The building of Windsor can be found in the beginning of the seventh century Saxon village of Windlesora, where the contemporary day dwellings of Old Windsor is located. The settlement of Windsor is more commonly identified as “New Windsor” - the actual word “new” being referenced in a loose way!

Windsor Castle at the start was erected by the renowned William the Conqueror, on account of his invasion of England in 1066. The original building was put together from lumber with earth ramparts. Palace held a noticeable strategic location on a big mound above the River Thames, & was a fraction of a group of strongholds in the region the Capital, with the Tower of London, one day’s ride away, at its core.

The Castle was later on reassembled in stone, and increased in importance over history. More recently Henry 2nd erected the Round Tower and the original stone outer wall. Following the English Civil War, the Castle’s most important role became that of a royal dwelling. The Castle has remained mostly untouched ever since the early 19th century, apart from the overhaul work that followed the horribly fire in 1992.
